Founded as a
joint venture between three churches in the Selly Oak area, the Day
Centre acts as a meeting place for men and women over the age of 70.
Priority is given to people who rarely go out of their homes without
assistance. Unfortunately, although we have a toilet suitable for the
disabled, and wheelchairs, we do not have enough able-bodied or
specialist helpers to accept people unable to transfer from chair to
chair unaided.
We meet on a Tuesday between 10am and 3pm. In the morning, after a cup
of tea or coffee, members chat or play games such as Scrabble, Lexicon
and cards. A 3-course meal is followed by a quiz or some other
entertainment. The charge for the day is currently £2.50.
If members cannot make their own arrangements for travel, volunteer
drivers, using their own cars, provide transport which means again that
members must have reasonable mobility - our drivers are not equipped to
act as ambulance men or women.
Help us! Please! We need help in the kitchen, on the social side, and
with driving, either every week or on a rota basis.

All
members of the Methodist Church at Selly Oak are organised into
"classes" with leaders who undertake pastoral care. Many classes meet
as house groups on a regular basis for fellowship, Bible study,
discussion, talks and social events. The leaders of the classes that do
not meet exercise their pastoral care by regular visiting. A warm
welcome is extended to any one who wishes to join a house group,
whether they are formally members of the Methodist Church or not.
Groups
meet each month in member's homes. Most groups meet in the evening but
there are two daytime groups. Meetings are usually advertised in the
weekly Church Notice sheet.

the whole world shown through the life and teaching of his son Jesus
Christ. We have our own separate time of learning in the hall when we
do a variety of activities, including drama, sharing news, artwork and
Bible stories. We also have our own area in church where we share a
time of worship with adults and sometimes help to lead worship.

us.

Group & Prayer Link |
The
prayer group is open to anyone. Just come along. We meet for a short
time of quiet prayer and our
prayers focus particularly on those with illness or special
circumstances.
Meetings are advertised in the weekly Church Notice
sheet.
The
prayer link is an arrangement that enables urgent or serious prayer
concerns to become known quickly. When a prayer need is received, a
brief, concise message is passed by telephone until all members have
been notified. Individual members include these special concerns in
their daily prayers at home.
