Open Circle - Selly Oak Methodist Church

OPEN CIRCLE
open circle logo

Open Circle has been part of Selly Oak Methodist Church, for over 40 years, following the closure of the then 'Young Wives' group, which had started in 1959. As the name implies the Circle is 'open' to all women who wish to join us, whether they belong to our church, another church, or live in the local community.
We are a thriving group of ladies of mixed age range with an average of 35 ladies at each meeting. We meet regularly for most of the year on alternating Wednesday evenings at 7.45 pm in the lounge, where a varied programme takes place providing fellowship, education, fun, and thought provoking subjects. We also provide care and support for each other.
We have a fund raising event during the year which enables us, with other funds, to donate to various local charities i.e. Edwards Trust, St. Mary's Hospice, Leukaemia Research.
We also have an annual coach trip to an interesting venue.

New members are always welcome, so 'why not come along and join us.'

A.G.M. REPORT - and after

Over the last year Open Circle - the ladies group, which meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings at 7.45pm - has grown in membership, we now have 46 members from the local community attending.
During August we had an interesting visit to Singers Hill Synagogue in Birmingham City centre.
Our Annual General Meeting was chaired by Ena Evans. Several members of the committee had completed their terms of office, and were thanked for everything they had contributed to the running of Open Circle.
The committee now consists of the following:-

President: Margaret Heath
Secretary: Jean Norburn
Treasurer: Valerie Sargeant
Committee Members: Pat Austin, Chris Arkley, Doreen Higgs, Muriel Tetley, Eunice Evans, Sue Pile.

Throughout the year a total of £1800, was raised through payment of subscriptions, a ‘Bacon Buttie’ and Easter Coffee morning, and this was distributed to the following groups:
Selly Oak Methodist Church £1000
Whizz Kidz (A local charity) £500
Birmingham Children’s Hospital Kidney Kids Appeal £300
