An important part of the work of the Methodist Church is "Home Missions as distinct from "Overseas Missions". This involves initiatiing, developing, and encouraging the work of the Mothodist Church within the United Kingdom. This particular aspect of Mission is promoting and supported at local level by the World Mission and Service Committee,as with Overseas Missions.

Broadly speaking, Home missions is comprised of all the regular work of the Methodist Church up and down the United Kingdom, involving all the disdtricts, circuits and individual churches. However there are also specialised areas of Home Missions work: in universities and colleges, hospitals, urban estates, immer cities, rural situations, prisons, industry and the armed forces, led by specially appointed chaplains.

To promote Home Mission, there is a national magazine called "Flame".

Also at Selly Oak we have a particular Sunday in the Methodist year, usually in January or February, when we have a preacher with specialist knowledge of an individual aspect to share their experience with us. So far we had the Rev Gareth Jones talking about the rationale of work amongst students, and Rev Jenny Carpenter on the subject of rural issues.

If you would like to find out more about Home Missions, why not contact David Patrick, the church secretary for Home Missions or Sue Cameron Baker the church secretary for World Mission and Service.
